HOT WATERFALLS IN RIO DULCE, GUATEMALA
A hot waterfall and a honey bear in Rio Dulce, Guatemala
After more than five weeks travelling through Guatemala we reached our last destination: Rio Dulce. For the first time we tried the bus company “Litegua” and we were positively suprised! We spend five hours in very comfortabel seats, the bus was clean and there was even a security check when we started our trip. For 80 Quetzales it was a good deal!
From the center of Rio Dulce, Guatemala we had a very special transportation to our hostel: by boat :). We crossed the lake for which Rio Dulce is famous for and entered a jungle-like bypass. Suddenly, almost out of nothing, appeared our hostel “Casa Perico“ It is managed by three Swiss guys and a honey bear 🙂 It is one of the best hostels we have stayed so far. Surrounded by mangrove trees you feel out of civilisation. And that was fantastic! The rooms were clean, the staff was great, so come here when you search for something different. And which hostel has a honey bear as a pat? Toto brought a smile into every face and he loved to play and cuddle. As a kid you always wish that your teddy bear becomes alive one day. With Toto it was a bit like that. Too cute. 🙂
Here, a short walk guided us through the forest and then we saw the waterfall. We couldn’t wait to get into the water. It was an amazing feeling to stand under the waterfall. You feel hot water coming from above while your lower half of the body stands in cold water. What a special experience! The waterfall is 12 m high and of course BoB and Lars had to jump again 🙂 A local guy even showed us around and went with us to the spring of the waterfall. There he got some white soil for us which we put on our skin. We felt like kids who were playing in the mud :). After washing the soil off our skin felt nice and soft.
We spent three amazing days in Rio Dulce, Guatemala and are now looking forward to our next country: Honduras.
